A short (abridged) history and ministry of the Korea
Evangelical Fellowship
The Korea Evangelical Fellowship was organized on May
7, 1981 at the Asian Center for Theological Studies
and Mission by and with the Korean evangelical church
leaders. The first general assembly nominated the following
evangelical church leaders as the first officers of
the KEF. Chairman: Rev. Park Cho Joon, Vice-chairmen:
Rev. Kim Joon Gon, Rev. Han Chul Ha, Rev. Chung Jin
Kyung, Rev. Nah Won Yong. General Secretary: Rev. Lee
Jong Yun. Ass. Gen. Sec.: Rev. Choi Hoon. Rec. Sec.:
Rev. Lim In Sik. Treasurer: Elder Lee Chang Shik. The
KEF also invited respected evangelical church leaders
such as Rev. Rev. Han Kyung Chik, Rev. Park Yune Sun,
Rev. Kim Chang In, Rev. Park Jong Ryul, Rev. Lim Oak,
Rev. Hong Soon Woo as the 'advisers' or 'officers' of
the KEF and launched out the movement of 'evangelical
belief' as well as the movement of 'unity and cooperation'
in the Korean church.
Some of the important ministries of the KEF during
the past 28 years were as the following.
(1) "Sunday Keeping" movement.
(2) "Evangelical Faith" movement through Keswick
Conventions and other public conferences.
(3) "Foreign Mission" endeavor in Asia together
with the Asia Evangelical Alliance
(4) "Charity ministry" to such disaster stricken
countries as Burkina Faso($80,000 in 1988), Turkey,
Sri Lanka($20,000 in 2005), Bangladesh($20,000 in 1989,
$45,000 in 1991, $2,700 in 1992, $7,830 in 2007), Indonesia($20,000
in 2005, $44,000 in 2006), Thailand($10,000 in 2005),
India($10,000 in 2005), Pakistan($100,000 in 2005),
North Korea, and Yen bin area in China. The KEF sent
charity money in the amount of $1,160,300 from Dec.
1995 to April 2009. The KEF is sending charity money
at least $24,000 every year mainly through the Eugene
Bell Foundation (directly to the tuberculosis patients
in North Korea). The KEF sent charity money to the poor
Korean Chinese children (mainly orphans) Yen bin area
in China in the amount of $756,100 from 2000 to 2009.
The KEF is sending charity money at least $9,400 every
year to about 260 children.
(5) Fellowship and Cooperation with the Asia Evangelical
Alliance, the World Evangelical Alliance, the L.C.W.E.
and especially with the Japanese Evangelical Alliance.
(6) "Monthly Prayer and Presentation Meeting"
at 7:00 AM. on Friday of the second week of every month
(except July and Aug.) in the member churches. In the
year of 2009 the KEF holds monthly meetings with such
themes as "New Year's hope and prayers"(Jan.),
"Who is Jesus of Nazareth?"(Feb.), "How
to succeed to the spirit of the March First Movement"(March),
"Reflecting the meaning of the faith of martyrdom"(April),
"Admiring the forefathers of faith"(May),
"Korean churches encouraging and togethering with
the small churches"(June), "Korean church
and the road to the Cross"(Sep.), "Christianity
and Islam"(Oct.), "Korean church and sport
mission"(Nov.). "Jesus who came as love"(Dec.)
The number of average attendants was about 100 (sometimes
about 200 and 300).

1984.6.5-11. Held the World Prayer Congress at Yongnak
Presb Church and Dooksum (Chairman: Rev. Park Jo Joon,
Preparation committee chairman: Rev. Kim Joon Gon).
About 1,200 church leaders form 85 countries attended.
Among the speakers were Dr. James Orr, Rev. Han Kyung
Chik, Rev. Park Yune Sun, Rev. Kim Joon Gon.
1984.10.22. The second general assembly of KEF nominated

1986.3.31. Held the World Prayer Conference under the
co sponsorship of KEF, EFA and the Prayer Committee
of Lausanne at the Halleluiah Church. Among the speakers:

1986.10.31. Held the Mission Conference under the co
sponsorship of KEF and EFA at the Halleluiah Church.

1986.11. Rev. Kim Myung Hyuk participated in the Faith
and Church Study Unit of the Theological Commission
of the World Evangelical Fellowship held in Cambridge,
England and presented a paper entitled as "Lessons
from the Prayer Habits of the Church in Korea."
which was published in a book "Teach Us To Pray"
edited by D.A. Carson.
1988 The KEF sent $80,000 to the famine stricken Burkina
Faso for digging a dozen wells.
1989.7.11-20. The KEF sent 80 members to the Lausanne
Congress held in Manila and donated $75,000.
1989. 8.19-24. Rev. Kim Myung Hyuk visited Bangladesh
and donated $20,000 to the social committee of the Bangladeshi
Evangelical Fellowship and Bangladesh Christian Social
Service.
1990.8.27-31. Held the first Asia Missions Congress
at the Choong Hyun Church under the co sponsorship of
KEF and EFA. About 1,300 from 50 countries attended.
Dr. David Howard, international director of WEF delivered
the forward message. Among the plenary speakers were

1991.5.7. The KEF sent charity money in the amount of
$15,000 to Bangladesh through the World Relief. 1991.5.27.
The KEF sent charity money in the amount of $10,000
to the Bangladesh CSS (Rev. Paul Munshi).
1991.6.4-7. Rev. Kim Myung Hyuk attended the third Japan
Congress of Evangelism held in Shiobara and delivered
a plenary message of apology and cooperation to the
1,130 Japanese church leaders attended including Rev.
Koji Honda, Rev. Hatori, Rev. Itsuda, Rev. Yamaguzi,
Rev. Funaki.
1991.6.27. The KEF sent the fourth charity money in
the amount of $10.000 and the fifth charity money in
the amount of $10.000 to the Bangladesh CSS(Rev. Paul
Munshi).
1992.4.9. The KEF sent the Christmas charity gift to
Bangladesh ($2,700), Burkina Faso ($1,000), Africa ($6,440),
Philippines ($1,000), Russia ($1,000).
1992.5.14. The KEF sent $5,000 to W.E.F. for the third
world mission.
1992.5.30. The officers of W.E.F. visited the Korea
Evangelical Fellowship
1992.10.9. The KEF sent $1.600 to the E.F.A. and $1,925
to the W.E.F.
1994.11.15. Ms. Ingrid Kern, the chairman of women committee
of WEF and Ms. Leela Manasseh , the chairman of women
committee of EFI visited the KEF and discussed with
the women leaders of KEF about the women ministry.
1997.5.8-15. Rev. Kim Myung Hyuk was invited to deliver
a plenary message at the 10th general assembly of WEF
held in Abbotzford, Canada and Rev. Kim delivered the
plenary message entitled as "Prayer and Church
Growth in the Korean Church."
1997.9.29-10. 3 The KEF participated and helped the
second Asia Mission Congress held in Zomtien Pataya,
Thailand.
1998.10.26. The KEF distributed the "The World
Day of Prayers for the Persecuted Churches" by
the WEF to the member churches, mission societies, news
presses, and radio stations.
2002.2.16. By the request of JEA, the KEF together with
CCK made a public statement opposing the President Bush's
bowing to the Shinto shrine. It was posted in the WEF
internet homepage for a while.
2003.7.15-7.26. Rev. Kim Myung Hyuk visited Afghanistan
and delivered food in the amount of $20,000 and medicine
in the amount of $10,000
2004.4.26-29. Held Asia Church Congress at Myung Sung
Prayer Mountain under the co-sponsorship of KEF and
EFA. About 300 Asian church leaders participated. Among
the speakers were as the following. Rev. Lee Joong Pyo,
Rev. Kim Sam Hwan, Rev. Choi Sung yu, Rev. Derek Hong
(Singapore), Rev. Ajith Fernando(Sri Lanka), Rev. Kim
Sang-Bok.

2005.12.9. The KEF sent charity money to the Rev. Godfrey
Yogarajah, the general secretary of EFA, for the earth
quake stricken Pakistan in the amount of $90.000. The
KEF also sent $20,000 to Indonesia.
2005.12.16. Rev. Kim Myung Hyuk visited Afghanistan
again and participated in the opening ceremony of a
school in Murodshed, Kundus built by the Korean church
(cost $111,830) and distributed gifts to the four hundred
some students gathered there together with about 100
Muslim leaders. Rev. Kim was so much surprised to hear
the children singing in the clear Korean language "We
welcome in the name of Jesus, Hallelujah. We love in
the name of Jesus, Hallelujah. We praise in the name
of Jesus, Hallelujah." It was because something
which could not happen in the Muslim country was happening.
It was happening not through the laud preaching but
through the quiet extending hands of love.
2006.7.7. The KEF sent charity money to the Indonesia
Evangelical Fellowship for the earth quake stricken
Indonesia in the amount of $44.000
